Church of the Original God Presents Flying Saucers

Part of Torn Space Theater’s Emerging Artist Series (EAS). Inaugurated in 2014, the EAS engages cross-disciplinary artists in a laboratory-type setting. In its first year, EAS tested the boundaries of directorial vision; this year, the exploration turns to sound, and the expanding possibilities of the artistic form. For EAS 2015, original compositions by Golove will be set against the backdrop of live gospel singers, a dynamic collision of style and substance that will explore the expansive potential of sound in performance. 

Accompanying the music will be multimedia artist Brian Milbrand. Milbrand’s live mixed visuals will create a synesthesia like effect, where the visual and audio are tied technologically using software designed by Milbrand. The visuals will consist of abstract and sampled imagery around the theme of technological singularity, tying together the science fiction songs composed by Golove from books by Alfred Bester, Harry Matthews and Thomas Pynchon and the traditional gospel songs sung by the choir.
