Agents of Change
Live Presentation: June 8, 10am-12pm at Lafayette International High School – 370 Lafayette Ave. Buffalo, NY 14213
Agents of Change is an outreach project with a focus on education, community involvement in both the East and West sides of Buffalo, performance, public art and storytelling. It started in 2021 with a public mural of community leader portraits photographed and installed by LIHS students, see the portrait gallery here.
Lafayette International High School is proud to announce the launch of its fourth annual Agents of Change community-based research project, with a dedicated focus on Environmental Justice. This initiative empowers students to explore and address critical issues within their local community, fostering a spirit of activism and leadership. This project is part of Just Buffalo Literary Center’s Civil Writes Project.
As part of this project, students will conduct interviews and research with local organizations actively committed to promoting environmental equity. This hands-on approach allows students to gain firsthand knowledge and insight into the challenges and opportunities surrounding environmental justice.
One of the key activities planned for this project is a tree planting event in collaboration with Re-Tree Buffalo. Students will be planting trees in the Broadway Fillmore area on April 26th, at 612 Fillmore Ave, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This tree planting effort symbolizes the students’ commitment to sustainable practices and community greening initiatives.
The culmination of this project will be a presentation at Torn Space Theater. During this event, students will share their findings, experiences, and recommendations with the broader community, aiming to raise awareness and inspire action towards environmental justice.
Lafayette International High School is excited to see the positive impact this project will have on both its students and the community at large. By empowering young minds to become agents of change, we believe in creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
