Fall of the House of Usher

Adapted by Steven Berkoff | Directed by Vincent O’Neil

Descendants of an ancient family of highly sensitive and peculiar artists, a brother and sister live out their declining days in their remote house of Usher. Attempting to alter their inevitable fate Roderick Usher invites an old school friend into their sealed world to help, or only witness, their ultimate horror.

This adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher takes Poe’s tale and explodes the text to create a new form. Vincent O’Neill refers to this as, “Total-theatre”. Through mime, dance, acting, light and sound we are presented with a view of man as paranoid and schizoid. Roderick Usher loves his cataleptic sister above everything, yet ultimately seems to wish to hear her screams.
